I have half an assessment written already. Can that be carried forward?

Yes, and a partial draft helps rather than hinders. Send what exists together with the scoring guide, and an editor establishes which criteria your pages already satisfy and which have not been touched at all. Whatever of yours is worth keeping stays in, so the submission reads consistently with earlier work in the courseroom. You are told what was changed and why before anything is filed.

What does an editor need before starting work on a Capella assessment?

Four things: the course code, whether you sit in FlexPath or GuidedPath, the scoring guide attached to the assessment, and any faculty comments left on earlier attempts in the same course. Those comments matter more than students expect, since one faculty member reads the whole course and tends to repeat an objection until it is answered. Is the writing checked for originality before it reaches the courseroom?
